I did it, I started my blog! By the way, that’s my daughter in the photo. She, my step-daughter and I were hanging in the New York Botanical Garden, one of my favorite places. She’d just scrambled up one of their large rock formations and was eagerly showing her triumph! I too am proud at taking the leap into realizing this dream of mine! Yay me!
Thank you for taking the time to visit Just Me, Maybe You. Have you had the opportunity to look at my About Me page? If you haven’t, I invite you swing on by after you’re done reading this.
If you have, then you’ll recognize this itemized list. I felt there was no need to re-invent the wheel so here goes:
“When I write an article for Just Me, Maybe You, I hold myself to the objectives of:
- Serving as an additional team member in your support system
- Sharing my experiences, both the good and bad. And as my daughter says, “Sharing is caring”
- Learning more about what interests me through research on my own and interaction with you
- Educating others when possible
- Entertaining those who stop by
- Connecting with new people thereby expanding both our social networks
- Using a few SAT words because doggone-it, I persevered in memorizing those words.”
I don’t think I can plagiarize myself, can I? I’ll make a note to look that up.
Some of you who’re reading this might be fellow bloggers, aspiring bloggers, or just someone who, like me, is very into pursuing progress. You might even be one of those bloggers who’d toyed with the idea of starting a blog for a while before going for broke! I mean, what in my ever-loving mind would spur me as a recovering anxiety-prone and borderline perfectionist to throw up my skirt to the world and share my privies with strangers?! Cause that’s what it feels like to a certain degree!
The only two reasons I can fathom are 1) I really am an exhibitionist and I am sauntering into this venture with an “I don’t give a hoot” attitude, or 2) I really feel a strong push to join the personal development community because I’ve experienced the awesomeness of coming into myself! I’m going to go with the second reason, though the first ain’t so bad.
In addition to that strong push, I also think I had a blend of underlying qualities that put me in the mindset to contemplate blogging. I’ve got a formula for it and everything so Einstein, hold onto you chalk and marvel at my skills:
Love to talk + Love to read + Aim to improve writing = Seed to blog
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a chatterbox. The first SAT word I learned was loquacious. Almost every school term while I was in primary (elementary) school, my teachers would write in my report book something along the lines of “Olanta is doing well but is a bit too talkative”. One year, the word loquacious made its debut and it became one of my favorites.
So I was born and raised in the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago to be exact. We did not have a billion channels when I was growing up. There were only two channels (well one good one) and I was only able to watch said channel during specific time blocks after homework and chores. The best you could hope for was your parents falling asleep during the 7pm news. You’d hold your breath and bladder for fear of waking them and being sent to bed. Good times, good times! Yeah, my panacea for the bore, when going outside to play was not an option, was reading.
Finally, once I figured out the nuances of writing, I realized that I really did like it. For those of you who struggle with writing, know that it’s possible to get better. I recall in high school we had to write a paper on something or the other—that part is vague. I wrote several pages. Another classmate wrote one page, just the front mind you. My boy got an A while I got a C. I was like, “What the what?!” I’d written my heart out. When I read his paper, I simmered down like pasta sauce on a low flame. “Um…yeah, what he said…” I’ve since improved in my skills and expect to get better as I write more often.
Well that’s it for now. Some of my posts will be long, others short, and still others a mere paragraph. It depends on the topic. I’m aiming for good content in whichever form it comes.
Again, thank you for reading, hope you found it helpful, and feel free to leave comments.
Sincerely,
Olanta.
